Biography information:
Joanne Haley-Borodine received her bachelor’s degree in music education from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.  She served as a teaching assistant while earning her master’s degree in vocal music education from Roosevelt University in Chicago.  Ms. Haley-Borodine also taught music education methods at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.  Prior to her arrival in Crown Point, Mrs. Borodine taught for nine years in Crete-Monee School District 201-U where she directed the award winning show choirs and concert choirs.

Crown Point High School Choral Department
The Crown Point High School Choral Department has a long history of excellent musical performances.  The various choirs have earned Superior ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association with Concert Choir being an ISSMA State Finalist seven times.    The choirs have performed at the Indiana Music Educators Association Convention and at the Indiana Choral Directors Association Central Division Convention.  CPHS choirs perform locally for community events, civic groups, and have sung in Nashville, Virginia Beach, New York City, and Los Angeles.

Crown Point Choirs have hosted a variety of college and professional groups, including choirs from Purdue, Notre Dame, and Yale.   Our Advanced Women’s Choir has travelled to St. Mary’s College for their High School Women’s Choir Festival.  The CP Concert Choir performed twice with Kenny Rogers at the Radisson.

Total enrollment in the choral department is 230 students who are enrolled in one of the following co-curricular choirs:  Beginning Girls Choir, Intermediate Boys Choir, Intermediate Girls Choir, Advanced Women and Mixed Choirs.  Our extra curricular groups include our Show Choir, men’s ensemble QYP, and women’s ensemble Bella Voce.  All of these groups are auditioned, and students participate in regular rehearsals after school or in the evening all through the school year.  This year Bella Voce will participate in the ISSMA Vocal Jazz Contest.

Course Offerings:

Beginning Girls’ Choir - This class is open to girls with a desire to sing on a daily basis. Many styles of music will be performed. Students will also learn correct singing technique and the fundamentals of music. Participation in several performances per semester is required.

Intermediate Choir – Mixed Choir is open to male students in the 9-12 grades and female students in grades 10-12. Intermediate chorus provides students with opportunities to develop musicianship and performance skills through ensemble singing. Many styles of music will be performed. Students must participate in performance opportunities, outside of the school day, that support and extend learning in the classroom.

Advanced Chorus (Treble) – Students taking Advanced Chorus develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. A number of public performances serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and music goals. Additional emphasis is placed on sight-reading, critical listening skills and vocal technique.

Advanced Chorus (Mixed) – Students taking Advanced Chorus develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. A number of public performances serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and music goals. Additional emphasis is placed on sight-reading, critical listening skills and vocal technique. Students must audition for this ensemble.

Extracurricular Offerings:

Bella Voce – Bella Voce is our select women’s ensemble.  This group has been together since 2007.  Bella Voce performs extensively in our community.
